Henley Royal Regatta...

This annual international rowing event will be held from 1st to 5th July 2009.

Henley Regatta was instituted long before national or international rowing federations were established and, as a result, it occupies a unique position in the world of rowing. It has been held annually since 1839, except for breaks during the two World Wars.

In 1851 H.R.H. Prince Albert became the Regatta's first Royal Patron. After his death, the reigning Monarch has always consented to become Patron. This patronage means the Regatta can be called Henley Royal Regatta.

Unlike multi-lane international regattas, Henley still operates a knock-out format with only two boats racing in each heat. This results in nearly 100 races on some of the five days.

Lambourn is an excellent base from which to visit Henley Royal Regatta, and return to afterwards in order to relax and recall the exciting races of the day.
